About this event

The Algarve Bike Challenge is a mountain bike stage race built around Tavira, run by the local club BTT Conceição de Faro and now heading into its fourteenth edition. Riders take it on solo or in pairs, and it opens with a night prologue through the historic centre of Tavira.

From there the stages head out on trails along the coast, through the barrocal hinterland and up into the Serra do Caldeirão, crossing hills, valleys and streams before returning to the old town. It is a corner of Portugal known for whitewashed houses, figs, almonds, carob and the medronho brandy distilled in the hills.

The organisers frame it as much as a weekend among friends as a race: the official hotels in Tavira double as a social hub with mechanics and a lounge, and over thirteen editions the event has helped put the Algarve on the map as a cycling destination.
