The Chilterns Wildwood bills itself as the original UK gravel event: first run in 2010 from Woodcote, it was designed as a late-winter ride that blurred the lines for mountain bikers chasing winter miles, cyclocrossers after some post-season action and roadies looking to get off the tarmac.
The route mixes hardpacked trails, farm tracks and back lanes through the Chilterns at a high pace, a showcase for how easily a gravel bike can switch between surfaces, while still giving mountain bikers a varied day of miles ahead of spring.
