About this event

explorr is a young outdoor endurance festival in Banchory, on Royal Deeside and the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, built around both gravel cycling and gravel running. Around the racing the weekend fills up with live music, talks, films, street food and an expo of outdoor brands.

The ride is a stage race with a difference: four timed stages on one route, with the overall decided on cumulative time and separate classifications for the best climbers and the fastest sprinters. In between, riders cross forests, hills and open Scottish landscape on punchy climbs and wind-swept gravel highways. Runners get forest tracks, riverside paths and the pine trails of Scolty Woodland, and the long-running Run Banchory is now part of the weekend.

The festival is delivered by Red On Sports, the team behind The Gralloch, the UK's first UCI Gravel World Series race, working with the local Run Banchory organisers. The first edition ran in 2026 and the organisers have opened interest registrations for 2027.
