Gravel 'n' Gröstl is a semi-supported gravel weekend in the Kaiserwinkl, the corner of the Tyrolean Alps around Walchsee, built on a simple order of events: ride gravel first, then sit down to a Gröstl from the alpine kitchen. The organisers are clear that it is not a race but an experience, with no clock running.
From a basecamp in Walchsee, riders pick freely among nine gravel loops through the mountain landscape and decide how many to ride; nobody rides between 10 pm and 5 am, out of respect for nature, wildlife and rider safety. The first edition set aside half of its places for FLINTA riders.
It is the work of Bastian Mensing, who also organises the Lakes 'n' Knödel bikepacking event and has made Tyrol his home since 2012, bringing together his two passions: endurance sport and alpine food.
