About this event

The MTB Marathon and its Gravel Challenge turn the forests of Kongernes Nordsjaelland, north of Copenhagen, into what the organisers call a cycling party each October, with a dedicated gravel route running alongside the mountain bike marathons from the same start and finish in Hillerod.

What sets it apart is that riders follow one long route rather than lapping the same circuit, so the terrain keeps changing through the Gribskov woods. Start groups run from elite to leisure riders, the first three in each class are decided on the line and everyone else is ranked on their own time, and the organisers stress that the day should be good whether you are racing hard or simply riding.

It is run by Allerod Orienteering Club, a club of around 175 members that also practises mountain bike orienteering, and it leans green: food at the finish is served on washable tableware, waste is sorted, and the club collects litter in the forest afterwards so it is left cleaner than it was found.
