About this event

The Parenzana Ultra Trail is a point-to-point run from Croatia into Slovenia along the bed of the Parenzana, the old narrow-gauge railway between Poreč and Trieste. It is organised by the Portorož sports club Športno društvo Sportorož, which runs the Parenzana Gravel Race over the same line the following day.

The longest course leaves the main square of Poreč before dawn and follows the waymarked railway path, mostly on packed gravel and natural surfaces, past Višnjan, Vižinada, Motovun, Livade, Grožnjan and Buje to the border, before the last stretch down to the coast at Portorož. Runners on the shorter courses wait at Livade and Grožnjan and are released behind the leaders as the lead vehicle comes through, so the whole field converges on the same finish at Kamp Lucija.

There are relay options for teams of two or three on the full distance, and the weekend has a social side: a pasta party at Kamp Lucija the evening before and a hot meal for runners at the finish.
