About this event

Rennsteig Gravel brings gravel racing to the Thuringian Forest, starting and finishing at the biathlon arena in Oberhof. The lap climbs out of the stadium onto broad gravel roads before meeting the Rennsteig, the historic ridge trail through the forest, and mixes fast forestry tracks with short technical passages in true low-mountain style. In 2027 the event hosts the German Gravel Championships.

It is run by Gute Laune Sport e.V., a Thuringian club that has staged more than 20 cycling and running events in the region since 2016, from cyclocross in Erfurt to road and mountain bike races. Rennsteig Gravel first ran in 2025 as a round of the German Gravel League, the national series organised with German Cycling, and in 2026 it grew into a weekend festival with a gravel biathlon, the main race and social rides, plus a common start for all women to give the women's field more space and visibility.
