About this event

The Sardinia Gravel Race is a young stage race based in the province of Oristano, on Sardinia's quieter west coast. Its first edition, in September 2026, drew riders from ten countries, some with professional racing backgrounds, and was presented as Italy's first gravel stage race: mass starts, stage and overall rankings and a leader's jersey, with aid stations and post-stage meals done the Sardinian way.

The ground changes from day to day. In 2026 the stages crossed farm tracks and the embankments of reclaimed land around Terralba, climbed the rocky volcanic flanks of Monte Arci, followed the lagoons and wind-exposed coast of the Sinis peninsula and finished with fast laps through the pine forest at Torre Grande, often in clouds of dust and, at least once, behind a flock of sheep.

It is run by Crazy Wheels Cycling Academy, led by Luca Massa, with support from the Sardinian regional government and the town of Oristano. The early-autumn date is deliberate: the idea is to show riders this corner of the island, its countryside, coast and small villages, once the summer crowds have gone.
