Transylvania 100 is a set of mountain ultras that start and finish beneath Bran Castle, the fortress tied to the Dracula legend, and cross the Bucegi range in grand single-lap traverses. Twisting singletrack, old forest trails, high plateaus and windswept ridges make up the courses, and late-May snow on the high ground is not unusual, so runners are told to come ready for winter conditions.

The race is organised by Asociatia Transilvania 100 and three co-organisers: British ultra runner Andy Heading, and father and son Marius and Vlad Cornea, who have lived in the Bran area all their lives and know the Bucegi trail network intimately. Their idea is to combine racing with travel, and the village of Bran becomes a small trail running hub for the weekend, with checkpoints at mountain huts such as Omu and Mălăiești.
