7rivers

7rivers is a cycling ultramarathon that crosses Poland from west to east on a single route, starting on the Odra at Kostrzyn nad Odrą and finishing on the Bug at Terespol. In between it follows the valleys of seven rivers, the Odra, Warta, Noteć, Brda, Wisła, Narew and Bug, and each river opens a new chapter of the journey.

The organiser describes a route over gravel roads, through forests and quiet corners of the country, ridden on gravel or mountain bikes. Its website pays unusual attention to the land itself, with a small atlas for each river covering the birds, plants and wetlands along the way, such as the mosaic of marshes in the Lower Odra valley where white-tailed eagles and ospreys hunt.

It is created by Stowarzyszenie ULTRAdventure together with VeloStacja, and the idea is less about the clock than about getting to know Poland up close from the saddle, leaving room for effort, curiosity and the people met between one river and the next.
