About this event

The Amarantos Gravel Experience turns a tiny mountain village in the Thessalian Agrafa into a gravel base camp for a long summer weekend. Amarantos, southeast of Lake Plastira, has around a hundred residents, red-tiled houses and a square shaded by tall plane trees, and riders can sleep in a few village rooms or camp under the trees.

The riding starts from the church courtyard, winds through the village lanes and heads onto forest roads deep into the Agrafa before dropping towards the Thessalian wine villages of Dafnospilia, Paliouri, Melisochori and Dasochori. The landscape shifts from high mountain forest to vineyards with barely any asphalt, ideal for gravel bikes, though MTBs are welcome.

It is part of the Greek Gravel Challenge series, run with the Region of Thessaly and the local community, and the focus is on the ride and the company rather than the clock, with local food served in the village square.
