FLATY888 is a self-supported ultra-cycling rallye in which riders plot their own way between eight checkpoints, one of them kept secret, with no outside help. Its third edition, Shadows of Mont Blanc, leaves Basel for the heart of Switzerland and pushes on into the French shadows of Mont Blanc before turning back.
Every public road and path is allowed, so routing is half the game. The organiser calls it an all-road rallye: some checkpoints sit well off the tarmac, a gravel or road bike on 32 mm tyres is enough for most, and wider tyres simply open up more options. The spirit is about endurance and grit rather than speed, and each rider carries a GPS tracker so friends and family can follow along on FollowMyChallenge.
Rallye director Christian Mayer is a bikepacker and cyclocross rider who also runs gravelrace.de and the #freeze400 ride. The previous edition, in 2026, ran from Mittenwald in the Bavarian Alps to Venice and back.
