About this event

GeoGravel Tuscany, subtitled Le Strade Grigie, was dreamed up by cycling champion Paolo Bettini as a journey into the geothermal heart of Tuscany. Based in Pomarance, it explores the Colline Metallifere, a landscape the organisers describe as lunar, with forgotten roads and woods straight out of a Grimm fairy tale.

The longer loops dive into the Monterufoli-Caselli nature reserve and push through the wild Val di Cecina towards medieval Bibbona, close enough to the Tyrrhenian to smell the salt, before returning past Monterotondo Marittimo and Sasso Pisano. It is a non-competitive weekend, and riders praise the generous food stops; the Piazzone in Pomarance becomes a village for the community, with a shared Sunday lunch.
