About this event

GravelBirken is the gravel race of the Birken family, the organisers of the famous Birkebeiner races, held in the mountains around Lillehammer. It only began in 2025, when both distances sold out, and capacity was doubled the following year.

The shorter route is a fully rideable introduction to gravel on mixed surfaces, through mountain farms, cabin areas and open views around Sjusjoen. The long one is a different animal: unmarked and ridden by GPS, it adds rough tracks, boardwalks, stream crossings and a hike-a-bike over the Rosinbakken climb, a detour to the viewpoint at Hafjellsnuen and a loop through Mosetertoppen before joining the Birkebeiner course back down to Lillehammer.

Riders share parts of the course with other Birkebeiner riders on race day, and the event counts towards the Birkebeiner Triple. Riders can choose a finisher medal or donate its value to charity, and awards are handed out in Hakons Hall at the finish.
