About this event

Green Border Gravel grew out of the quiet gravel roads along Slovenia's southern frontier with Croatia, where old boundary stones sit beside forest tracks and ridgelines open onto views across the border. The organisers frame it as a ride about space and silence rather than speed or spectacle, and they keep it deliberately small and personal.

The loop from Novo mesto, the old town at the heart of Dolenjska, links some of the wildest country in the region: the deep spruce and beech forests of Kočevski Rog, the ridge riding of Gorjanci, the karst hills and quiet villages of Žumberak with its high point at Sveta Gera, and the meadows around the disappearing lake of Cerknica. Most of it is forest road and compact gravel, with stretches where services are an hour or more apart.

It is a self-supported event: no feed zones and no outside help, just the GPX line, village shops and water taps, with smartphone tracking and a timed classification. Strong riders can push through in one long effort, while others can treat it as a multi-day journey within the time limit. The event is run by the Slovenian association Društvo Mobilandija.
