Grunnduro

Grunnduro bills itself as the most enjoyable bikepacking weekend in the Netherlands, and it is firmly not a race. In past editions riders left Groningen on mostly unpaved routes through the north of the country, spent the night together at a shared campsite and rode back to the city the next day.

The terrain mixes gravel paths, asphalt and short stretches of singletrack without being very technical, so a gravel bike suits it best, though a mountain bike or a crosser with wider tyres will do. The idea is to show off the finest unpaved paths of the northern Netherlands, even to locals who think they already know every corner.

It was started by Elmar de Jong and Jens Leegte, who met as bike couriers in Groningen and got the idea after riding Veneto Gravel in Italy. Since 2026 it has been run by Fietscafé Spaak in Groningen, with the same aim: an accessible weekend that anyone can join, whatever their experience or equipment.
