About this event

The Hungarian Divide is the country's biggest off-road ultra: a single push from one end of Hungary to the other across its mountain ranges, run since 2020 by KLND, a Hungarian gravel and off-road cycling community. It is fully self-supported, with no support cars, no pre-placed packages and no help from friends, and while the clock runs from start to finish there are no prizes: the organisers say everyone who reaches the end is a winner. Places are given by application to riders with previous ultra experience.

The route changes every year and its direction alternates: the 2026 edition crossed from Szentgotthárd on the western border to Rudabányácska in the far northeast, and 2027 heads from east to west. Expect dirt roads, gravel, trails and little-used forestry tracks, with a few sections where you get off and push. The organisers recommend a hardtail mountain bike with wide tyres, and say a gravel bike works for confident riders on tyres of at least 45 mm.

It was Hungary's first unsupported bikepacking event when 99 riders lined up in 2020, and 59 of them made it to the finish. KLND now treats it as the top of a ladder of its own events, with the non-competitive Tour Horizont as the step before it.
