The Nire Valley Drop is a long-running off-road challenge in the Comeragh Mountains of County Waterford, starting from the small village of Ballymacarbry at the mouth of the Nire Valley. It began as a charity ride and has grown into one of the better-known mountain bike days in Ireland, now with a separate gravel grinder route alongside the classic MTB loop.
Both routes climb into the foothills of the Comeraghs and offer optional shortcuts, so the day works for confident riders and for those who want a gentler outing. In 2026 the event was part of the Comeraghs Wild Festival, a four-day programme of walks, music, workshops and local heritage around the valley.
