The Costa Brava's coastal-cliff race. From Tossa de Mar, the route climbs out of the harbour and up into the hills behind, then traces a loop above the coast. Mediterranean views the whole way.
Three distances cover most riders' appetites: 143 km, 98 km, and 58 km. Around 300 starters in total, which keeps the field intimate by Catalan-event standards - closer in feel to a club ride than to a flag-bearing race weekend.
The setting does a lot of the work. Tossa in late May is the Costa Brava at its best: warm but not hot, holiday town in shoulder-season quiet, and the cliff line out toward Sant Feliu is one of the most photographed coasts in Spain for good reason. In fact, the Volta a Catalunya regularly goes through there.
Coastal scenery, three distances to choose from, and a small enough field to feel personal. About as easy a sell as the Catalan calendar offers.
