The gravel marathon at the Salzkammergut Trophy grew out of a mountain bike race with results going back to 1998. The Trophy added a gravel category in 2017, which made it one of the first events in Europe to do so, and gravel riders now race on the same summer weekend as the MTB marathon.

The longest route leaves the imperial town of Bad Ischl and follows the Traun through Bad Goisern and along the shore of Lake Hallstatt before the real climbing starts at Obertraun, where it joins the Trophy's C course through the forests and mountains of the Dachstein-Salzkammergut region. The organiser describes the terrain as a vast network of gravel, forest tracks and quiet paved side roads; the shorter options stay on technically easy trails, down to a beginner and junior loop into the Weissenbach valley.

It is run by the MTB Club Salzkammergut from Bad Goisern. Gravel riders are timed and ranked in age categories, while the Trophy's team and special rankings stay reserved for mountain bikes.
