About this event
Every September the bike community gathers in the High Black Forest for the Schwarzwald Bike Marathon, a long-running off-road weekend centred on the RENA stadium in Furtwangen. Saturday belongs to the youngest riders with balance-bike and kids' races, and on Sunday the adults set off on mountain bike, e-bike and gravel courses.
Gravel riders have their own timed race, the Scherzinger Gravel Cup, on varied forest tracks, gravel roads and small lanes, and it also counts towards the 3Lions Gravel Cup, the Württemberg cycling federation's ten-race series across Baden-Württemberg. The courses cross nature reserves around the Rohrhardsberg and the upper Elz, so riders are asked to keep food and rubbish to the marked feed zones.
The event is run by the Schwarzwald Bike Marathon club, whose board has put it on year after year. Part of every entry fee goes to the Katharinenhöhe, a rehabilitation clinic in Furtwangen for children with cancer, under the motto 'Biken für krebskranke Kinder', and finishers are welcomed with an alcohol-free beer.
