About this event
In 1894 the pioneers of long-distance cycling rode 620 km from the Upper to the Lower Rhine in one go, and nineteen-year-old Fritz Opel won in 27 hours and 50 minutes. The Supergrevet Basel Kleve follows the Rhine today on its own lines, self-supported and unranked, with a shared start in Kleinbasel.
The route climbs over the Black Forest to the Schauinsland, where very steep gravel ramps, a steep descent and a rooty singletrack can make pushing the sensible choice, then crosses the Upper Rhine plain and the Hunsrück before opening out into the Lower Rhine. Most of the ride rolls quickly along dykes, through floodplains and down long straights, and from 2027 riders can choose a gravel or an allroad version on the same ticket.
Supergrevet is the long-distance branch of the Grevet series, built on a simple idea: no escort, no support crew, no safety net. The lines are designed so that riders who have completed a Grevet series have a realistic chance of reaching the finisher party in Kleve.
