About this event

The Bright Midnight is a self-supported bikepacking challenge through the Norwegian highlands and fjords, timed for the weeks around midsummer when it never really gets dark, so however fast or slow you ride, you will not miss any of the scenery. No third-party support or pre-booked accommodation is allowed: riders live off commercial services along the way.

The loop starts in Tolga, a mountain village on a river amid open tundra, then follows gravel and fast roads west to the hairpins of Trollstigen. From there it drops into the fjordlands, climbs among the highest peaks of Jotunheimen and finally turns back east towards the morning sun, with some 20,000 metres of climbing along the way.

It was created by a Norway-based rider who wanted to show others their own playground in the season of endless light, and it has run every summer since 2023. The rules keep a friendly tone: leave no trace, look after each other, and remember it is not the Hunger Games.
