Two coasts, two disciplines, 1,800 km. The Pyrenean Rally leaves Llançà on the Mediterranean, crosses the range to the Atlantic on 900 km of gravel and rocky MTB-style trail, then returns by 900 km of paved Pyrenean cols - a 14-day window, a maximum of 99 riders, and a tyre swap at the halfway checkpoint that's the structural heart of the route.
The numbers are extreme even by ultra standards: 46,000 m of climbing total, 24,000 of that on the unpaved first half, with a couple of hours of mandatory hike-a-bike. The second half is a Tour de France pilgrimage in compressed form - 34 of cycling's most photographed cols, all paved, the climbing-metres tally still ticking up.
What makes the format different from old-school ultras: the #6HoursAlliance rule. Six hours of rest per day are mandatory, enforced via the tracker. The clock still counts, but the format takes the sleep-deprivation arms race and slows it back down to something humans can actually sustain.
One of Europe's most demanding gravel-bikepacking events, and one of the most thoughtfully designed.
