About this event

Tour Horizont is a week of bikepacking across Hungary, from Szentgotthárd in the far west to Budapest, and it is deliberately not a race: there is no ranking, no stopwatch and no podium, and everyone who reaches the end within the time limit counts as a finisher. Riders take it on solo or in pairs, at their own pace.

The route follows the marked Horizont cycling route, mixing quiet tarmac with unpaved roads, and its first edition crossed the Őrség, the Vasi-hegyhát, the Keszthely Mountains, the Balaton Uplands, the Bakony, the Vértes, the Gerecse and the Buda Hills. Instead of hotels, riders stop at community basecamps roughly a day's ride apart, run by local hosts with a place to sleep, showers and meals.

It is organised by KLND, the Hungarian adventure cycling club behind the Hungarian Divide, together with the Hungarian Cycling Tourism Association (MAKETUSZ), and the club counts it as one of its two flagship events. A shorter Horizont Intro offers an entry-level taste of the same idea.
