About this event
Unionsrittet was the idea of Espen Vinje, who wanted an international gravel race rooted in Østfold, built around community and the simple joy of riding. After his death in early 2025, Green Cycling Norway and the local club Smaalenene SK took it on to carry his gravel spirit forward, and it quickly became the Norwegian championship.
The racing happens on a lapped circuit through Indre Østfold, the border country between Norway and Sweden: rolling and fast, mostly gravel and forest roads with short punchy rises and one technical descent near the end. Elites and age-groupers race for titles, recreational riders choose one, two or three laps, and children ride the pump track at a growing gravel festival around the start in Askim.
