About this event

The GRAVEL-MTB-Race am Kastell is a lapped gravel race around the Kastellhalle in Waldmössingen, a village of Schramberg in the Black Forest, close to the old Roman fort that gives the race its name. The short laps mix gravel, grass and tarmac, and the start and finish sit by the hall, where families, fans and fellow riders are welcome to watch.

Licensed riders, amateurs and two-rider teams start together in separate blocks; in the licence race only drop-bar bikes are allowed, while amateurs may ride a mountain bike or flat bar. In 2026 the race was the Baden-Württemberg gravel championship and a round of both the 3Lions Gravel Cup and the Schwarzwälder ADAC-MTB-Cup.

The organiser, RV 1921 Waldmössingen, makes a full race day of it, with youth cross-country races and a skills course from under-7s to under-19s before the gravel start. It is a club for all generations, with its own Gravel Crew for group rides in the Black Forest and a youth section, the Ritzelrocker, that trains on the mountain bike course by the Roman fort.
