West Carpathian Challenge

West Carpathian Challenge is a Slovak mid-distance bikepacking challenge, open to mountain bikes and gravel bikes as well as walkers, runners and kickbikers. It has no time limit and calls itself a community challenge rather than a race, but anyone who wants to make the finish-line party has to keep moving: the 2026 edition gave riders roughly four days.

The 2026 routes ran from Lozorno at the foot of the Little Carpathians up to Veľká Javorina, along the Považský Inovec ridge and through the iconic village of Čičmany, then past the geographic centre of Europe and Kremnica towards Banská Bystrica. From there the longer line crossed Poľana, the Muráň Plateau, Kráľova hoľa and the Slovak Paradise, while the shorter one climbed onto the Low Tatras ridge, both finishing at Jakubovany under the High Tatras. The organisers mix hard sections with faster recovery stretches, and the hard ones always lead somewhere with a view.

It is a small, personal event run from Lozorno: Maťo plots the route, Miri organises and Moni gets things rolling, with goulash and local beer waiting at the Saturday afterparty. Entries have traditionally opened on St Nicholas Day, 6 December.
