About this event
For a second year running, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship comes to Gozo, the smaller sister island of Malta, where age-group world titles are decided in a trail marathon that circles the whole island and a trail half marathon that joins the same perimeter route. Open races run on the same course, so runners who have not qualified can still be part of the weekend.
The course follows Gozo's rugged edge along coastal trails high above the sea cliffs, dropping into quiet valleys and passing ancient villages, hidden bays and limestone tracks, switching between technical sections and open clifftop running. In 2026 the championship drew runners from 30 countries.
XTERRA Gozo is run by a local team rooted in the island's trail community; race director Nathan Farrugia describes it as a race organised by athletes for athletes, and the weekend closes the XTERRA Trail Run World Series.
